Condos Rising on Tiki Island
Galveston

Developers
show no signs of slowing waterfront projects around
the county. The latest is The Marina Condominiums
at Tiki Island, which crews have begun building.
The first phase of the luxury project will include
a six-story structure with 90 units. Amenities include
a resort-style pool, fitness center and lighted
fishing. Sunhill International and Claremont Property
Co. are the developers.
Sunhill made
a splash in Tiki Island in June 2005 when it bought
the 58-slip Teakwood Marina. Among changes to the
marina, developers are putting in new gas pumps
and a store. They’re also bringing the total
number of boat slips to 150, said Keeley Megarity,
president of Claremont Property Co.
Most developers
are seeing a slight swell in demand for bigger boat
slips. Some slips at the marina will accommodate
60-footers, Megarity said.
Meanwhile,
look for construction of the condominiums —
prices are between $300,000 and about $750,000 —
to be complete in about 12 months.
